The town of Liska has always been cherished in the Jewish community, notably for the Liska Rebbe’s creation of a famous synagogue that ranked among Europe’s largest at that time. Jewish communities keep the memory of the town and the tzadik alive, as many make pilgrimages here to seek blessings in the spirit of the Kivrei Tzadikim tradition.
Rebbe Hershele Lisker (רבי הערשעלע ליסקער), also known as Zvi Hirsh Friedmann (צבי הירש פרידמאן) and the esteemed author of Ach Pri Tevu'ah (אך פרי תבואה), was one of the prominent Hasidic leaders whose teachings still resonate with his followers today. The Rebbe was a devoted disciple of the renowned Teitelbaum Moshe zt"l (משה טייטלבוים זצ״ל), better known as the Yismach Moshe (ישמח משה), from whom he acquired profound Torah knowledge and Hasidic wisdom. This bond between disciple and teacher continues to thrive in Hasidic circles, especially among the Satmar community, which honors the memories of both Teitelbaum and Rebbe Hershele Lisker.
